Convert my foreign payment with a rate I can cite.
Yes. convert returns the converted amount with the Norges Bank reference rate and the publication date used. If the requested day has no observation, it can use an earlier rate within five days and states that fallback; your assistant should show it alongside the result.
Help me set local ebook prices people can afford.
Yes. get_buying_power returns a recommended multiplier derived from World Bank GNI per capita at purchasing-power parity, and your assistant can apply it to your USD list price before converting to local money. The recommended factor is capped at 1.0 and floored at 0.35; source-year and fallback fields show what it rests on. It is guidance for your decision, not a sales forecast.
Show how the euro has moved against the krone.
Yes. get_rates_range returns dated observations in NOK per euro that your assistant can chart or summarise. Coverage varies by currency and date range; missing observations are not invented or filled with zero.
Give me the daily currency table for my report.
Yes. get_all_rates returns the available daily table with currency codes, names and NOK-per-unit rates. Your assistant can format it as a report table and must show the returned date and any fallback to an earlier business day.
Compare our euro costs with our dollar receipts.
Yes. Currency can convert between two supported non-NOK currencies by deriving the cross-rate through NOK. Your assistant gets the dated rate and its inverse, then can convert each amount on the date you choose; this is a reference comparison, not a bank settlement quote.
Show which countries need a different local-price policy.
Yes. list_buying_power returns country multipliers sorted from the lowest buying power, with raw measurements and provenance. Your AI can compare markets and use get_buying_power with history=true for selected countries. Use factor for the recommended policy and keep data years distinct from retrieval dates.
How can I use Currency to document a dated conversion?
Say: “Convert this payment to kroner for the payment date and show your source.” Your AI confirms the amount and date, uses list_currencies if a code is uncertain, then calls convert with amount, from, to and a YYYY-MM-DD date. It reports the converted amount, Norges Bank reference rate and actual publication date, including requested_date, fallback and notice when returned. You get a conversion you can trace back to a dated rate; your bank’s settlement amount may differ.
How can I use Currency to handle a weekend or holiday date?
Say: “Find the reference rate for this Sunday and tell me which day you used.” Your AI calls get_rate with the requested date. Currency looks back up to five days if necessary; your AI shows the requested and returned dates, rate and fallback notice together. If no nearby observation exists, it reports the error. You get the actual earlier publication or a clear gap, without inventing a rate for a non-publication day.
How can I use Currency to compare payments in two foreign currencies?
Say: “Compare this euro invoice with our dollar receipts on the same date.” Your AI checks list_currencies, calls get_rate for EUR to USD on your chosen date and uses convert for the amounts. Cross-rates are derived through NOK. It shows the returned rate, inverse, publication date and any fallback alongside the comparison. You get a consistent reference comparison; Currency does not execute an exchange or calculate your bank fees.
How can I use Currency to build a history chart or daily report?
Say: “Chart the euro over this period and give me the closing day’s rate table.” Your AI calls get_rates_range with currency, from_date and to_date, then get_all_rates for the table date. It charts or formats the returned observations and labels the rate direction, dates and any fallback. You get a chart and table assembled by your AI from stored observations; gaps remain gaps, and coverage varies by series.
How can I use Currency to suggest local prices for my ebook?
Say: “Suggest country prices from my USD list price and show the assumptions.” Your AI calls get_buying_power for each ISO alpha-2 country code, applies factor to your USD list price, then uses convert with the chosen exchange-rate date. It retains reference_year, fetched_at, data_origin and any unknown or fallback note. You get dated local-currency suggestions with a traceable policy; factor is bounded from 0.35 to 1.0, while raw_factor is a measurement for an alternative policy you choose.
How can I use Currency to compare buying power across markets?
Say: “Compare our markets’ buying power and show the data’s age.” Your AI calls list_buying_power, then get_buying_power with history=true for countries you want to examine. It distinguishes recommended factor from raw_factor and ratio, and source reference_year from fetched_at. Missing years stay absent; unknown or fallback data stays labelled. You get a comparison and, where returned, country and US baseline histories for your own pricing decision.
Which currencies are covered?
35 currencies quoted against NOK exactly as Norges Bank publishes them, plus three Norges Bank indices (I44, TWI and XDR) — 38 series in all. list_currencies gives the codes.
How fresh are the rates?
Norges Bank publishes reference rates on business days, and Currency syncs the published data. Ask for latest or an explicit date and check the returned publication date and fallback notice; this is not an intraday feed.
Can I trade on these rates?
No. These are Norges Bank reference rates for accounting, reporting and pricing — not quotes you can execute at a bank.
Do I need an API key?
Sign in through Publifye OAuth from a supported MCP client, with no key to copy. A paid plan also supplies a personal API key for scripts using X-API-Key; check the allowance for the connection you use.
What is free?
The website’s charts and converter are free without an account. A free Publifye account has a time-limited MCP evaluation trial, rather than a permanent free MCP plan; Currency Access continues access with a larger allowance. See the store for current trial terms, allowances and prices.

How often do rates update?
Norges Bank publishes on business days, and the service syncs the data. A missing-date lookup may use the nearest earlier publication within five days and reports the date and fallback; it never invents a weekend observation.
How far back does the history go?
History reaches roughly 1980 for many series, with later starts for others. Use get_rates_range and inspect the returned dates and count for the currency and period you need.

Do I need an API key, or can I just log in?
Sign in through Publifye OAuth in a supported MCP client, or use the personal API key issued with a paid plan in X-API-Key for scripts. Check the allowance for your connection, and keep the key out of conversations and logs.

The official rates, not a scrape

Every figure comes from Norges Bank's own feed — the rates Norwegian banks, accountants and public bodies quote. Nothing is estimated or filled in. Ask for a date Norges Bank never published and you get nothing back, rather than a plausible number.

Free to evaluate, paid to use

A free account includes 10 calls a day — enough to wire this into an assistant and judge it honestly, not enough to run on. Currency Access gives you 25,000 a month, spendable in bursts. Rates publish once per business day, around 16:00 CET, and never change afterwards, so a day's figures are safe to cache.
